Length of walk 4 miles, 3 hours approx. Led by Nigel Hardacre.
This is an easy route, but good walking shoes or boots are recommended as we go mainly on footpaths and tracks that cover both canals. There is the old Lancaster Canal (built 1796-1803), and the Leeds and Liverpool Canal that connected to it in 1816, plus other local history (wharves, coal yards, lime kilns, tunnels, quarries, chemical works) from the 19th and 20th centuries.
Meet at Malt House Farm pub car park off Moss Lane (PR6 8LS). 9.45am for a 10.00 a.m. start.
The walk is a circular route and ends back at the Malt House Farm pub.
This walk is organised in conjunction with Lancaster Canal Trust.

Restoring the UK’s blue infrastructure – our inherited network of navigable canals and rivers – is good for people and places.
Hundreds of miles of waterways – along with their unique heritage and habitats – are currently starved of funding and rely on constant lobbying by us to safeguard their future.
We want boating on canals and rivers to be more sustainable and – even though the current overall contribution to UK carbon emissions is very small – we want to help reduce emissions on the waterways.
Britain’s canals and rivers are a unique, living heritage. But that heritage is at risk – from urban development, lack of protection, loss of skills and knowledge and climate change.
You can help Save Waterways Heritage.

Britain's waterways are vital; together we can campaign for them now and for the future.
