                                               Sad News.Ian Hill

                                        Dr. Francis Ian Hill

My friend Ian Hill of Arnside, Cumbria was taken ill at the end of the Westmorland County Show 2017 he was taken to hospital and treated for a serious heart condition he made a partial recovery but later relapsed and died in hospital on the 6th of December.

I met Ian in 2010 when he came to join the tripboat crew with his wife Olive and I helped him to become a Waterwitch skipper, he made many friends in the tripboat team and the Lancaster Canal Trust.

Ian was a Gentleman, softly spoken and most knowledgeable of his other interest Industrial Archeology, he travelled widely in Britain visiting sites and museums, his special interest was water mills. Ian enjoyed swimming and was a frequent visitor to the local swimming pool. Ian and Olive were frequent holiday visitors to the Scilly Islands and brought back with them many interesting tales of things they saw and did.

I have not seen Ian since August when Sheila and I enjoyed a visit from them, the memory of this, and all that was Ian before, will last.  Good Bye Ian, rest in peace.

Alan Mather,
