Work Party Report 11th & 12th February 2017
During the weekend of 11/12 February Trust volunteers continued work at Sellet Hall Bridge (B173) on our First Furlong project. After finding that the transition walls were probably a main cause of leakage the object of the work was to fill in the gaps with clay (and stones where necessary).
But before starting, the gaps were examined by our wildlife expert using an endoscope to check that there was nothing living in them.
After starting work with trowels and mortar tools it was found that the best technique was to take a handful of clay, squeeze it into a gap and smooth it off (child's play!).
We then ran our pump for a couple of hours to fill up with water. Having marked the water level it is now a matter of monitoring the level to see if we have fixed the leak.
When we took our stuff back to Millness we were able to christen our new petrol powered washer which made short work of the sticky clay. Watch this space.....
